Brief content of the work packages

WPO: Coordination
This work package ensures the smooth running of the project thanks to the organization of various meetings between the partners. It will also ensure the best communication with the European Commission, the Russian Ministry for Science and Education and Bioenergy stakeholders during EU-Russia-Consortium meetings.

WP1: Bio-liquids production, analysis and fuel specifications
Batches of pyrolysis oil will produced and experiments will be carried out to determine the process conditions required to obtain the best oil quality. Apart from fast pyrolysis oil, other oils (plant oils and plant-oil derived biodiesel) will be tested. Bio-liquids will be characterized in the WP.

WP 2: Bio-liquids upgrading and blending
Bio-liquids will be modified to improve their properties with respect to direct combustion in an engine or turbine and with respect to making blends and emulsions (filtration, dewatering, mild treatment, catalytic pyrolysis blending and emulsification.

WP 3: Micro Gas Turbine
A micro gas turbine (MGT) will be selected and will be modified to allow the combustion of plant oils, (upgraded) pyrolysis oils and mixtures or emulsions. Only minor modifications will be considered. Then, the MGT will be tested and modifications will be evaluated.

WP 4: Engines
After the right research strategy has been identified, components that can be added to a standard engine as a retrofit package will be developed and engines will be modified and tested. Then, it will be improved and another round of tests will be carried out.

WP 5: Emission reduction
Fundamental research will be carried out on both catalysts for De-NOx and catalysts for reforming bio-liquids to syngas in order to select the optimal ones. Then, they will be further shaped and tested. Based on all the results a complete system will be designed, constructed and assembled.

WP 6: Assessments
Analyses of the developed technologies will be performed, based on experience gained from WP1-WP5. Additionally, the specific need of the target user groups concerning CHP capacities will be taken into consideration.
